Come & Create - Fall 2026
Students creating unique works of art at Art Society’s painting table
As the week comes to a close, students are often looking for an activity to unwind their busy minds from the scrunch of textbook reading, essay writing, and project managing. The Arts & Culture practicum team saw this as an amazing opportunity to showcase their own work, announce the 2026 - 2027 Thin Space Art & Theology journal theme, and invite their classmates to enjoy the beauty of creating through an event they called Come & Create.
Covering the floor of Chapman 1 with various paper scraps, magazines, and art tools, Arts & Culture created a space where students were able to take a seat, drink some tea, and let their minds relax and their creative juices flow. Art Society made a special appearance offering a painting table, the Veil Theater provided a space for mad libs, and XN utilized a vacant studio for students to experience working with audio.
The main highlight of the night, however, was the Thin Space: Art & Theology Journal’s theme reveal. Jane Bryan, the Creative Director of the Arts & Culture team announced that this year’s Thin Space theme is . . . euphony! She encouraged students to look into the theological significance of this word and begin to cultivate their written and visual pieces for submitting throughout this semester. Alumni are also invited to submit! More information and submission forms will be posted on the M&MA socials. After the theme reveal, students excitedly chattered as they continued scrapbooking.
Isaiah Hwong serves as the lead of the Art & Culture’s event team. In ideating this event, he said, “We wanted to fuse music with food, with hands on creating and I think we did a good job with that.”
K.D. Warner, a first-time attendee, came early and was excited to see the event beginning to take shape. Speaking with some of the coordinators, she agreed to help with the live music aspect of the event by sharing her beautiful vocals with the other attendees. While performing, she was able to see the students interacting with the various stations as they socialized with one another and enjoyed the environment. After the event, K.D. reflected on the event, saying, “[it’s a] great time for people to unwind and reflect on things that they’ve been experiencing, too, and I think art is a great outlet for that, as well, to get the thoughts in your head out on paper or sing them out in a song.”
The whole student body is so excited to see what else is coming from the Arts & Culture team including the curation of the Thin Space journal and other creative events such as this one. The school year is off to a beautifully creative and wonderfully collaborative start!
