Dr. Dan Mattix is a composer, songwriter, educator, and creative leader whose work centers on helping students create, develop, and share music with purpose.

He serves as Professor of Music at Moody Bible Institute, where he coordinates the Composition & Songwriting major and directs the Moody Creative Ensemble (MCE), a collaborative music lab integrating performance, songwriting, arranging, worship leadership, recording, and new creative work.

Dr. Mattix teaches composition, songwriting, music theory, digital music, leadership, church music, and applied composition.

His particular interests include songwriting, film music, the theology of creativity, and helping Christian artists develop a healthy and sustainable creative process. He is especially interested in the space where musical craft, collaboration, faith, and creative curiosity meet.

As a composer, arranger, and sound designer, Dr. Mattix’s music has been performed across the United States and internationally. His work ranges from film scores and choral and instrumental music to contemporary songwriting, worship music, and large collaborative projects.

Through both his teaching and creative work, he encourages students to develop a distinct artistic voice while remaining curious, teachable, and open to the ideas of others.

He lives in the Chicago area with his wife and two children.
